architectureplatform interview with Carlos Ferrater
Carlos Ferrater
ap – Why and how you decided to become an architect?
Carlos Ferrater – Visiting the Senillosa House of Jose Antonio Coderch of Sentmenat. I learnt / understood the work of the architect. Since then I tried to be faithful to that first decision.
ap – Please mention to us your approach to design and architecture?
CF – I believe that architecture should have a social background, made for people. There should always be a constructive reason that allows to go from the first idea to finished building.
ap – What is your favorite building you designed? Why? Please explain.
CF – The best building is that you’re designing at the moment. Back in the days there were the houses and the Nautical Club of Estartit, the IMPIVA Building, the Hotel Juan Carlos I, the house for a photographer. And now would be the House AA with Xavier Martà soon to be finished.
ap – Can you give us your future predictions on architecture? What will happen in architectural world globally in 50 years and 200 years from now?
CF – Making futurology, try to make buildings that can last 200 years. My greatest joy is to know that projects we recently completed, such as the Mediapro building, the Science Park of Granada, the Intermodal Station Zaragoza or the seafront of Benidorm will remain within 50 to 200 years, physically and intellectually recognizable and beyond trends.
ap – Thank you.
